Stallion Service Contract live cover for Good N Lazy – 2023
This stallion service contract is for the 2023 breeding season for the bay tobiano APHA stallion named Good N Lazy, APHA # 994,961, hereafter referred to as the stallion. This contract is entered into on the ________day of _____________________, 2023 between Heather Grovet, Galahad, AB, Canada, and ____________________________________________, mare owner.
Please print this contract, sign it and mail, fax or email to stallion owner with a copy of your mare’s registration papers. Stallion owner will sign and return a copy to you.

· Mare must be in healthy and sound breeding condition, and free from infections, contagious and transmittable disease.
· Purchaser may not substitute another mare for breeding without prior, written consent of Heather Grovet.
· The mare’s health and mortality are the full responsibility of the mare owner before, during and after this breeding. If the mare has a foal at her side, that foal's health and mortality are also the full responsibility of the mare owner before, during and after breeding.
· The breeding season for live cover runs from March 1/2023 to June 1/2023 unless mutually agreed upon by both mare owner and Heather Grovet. Please email or phone as at the information to plan your dates.
The stallion handler/owner agrees to diligently try to settle the mare during the current breeding season. Should conception not occur (as evidenced by ultrasounds by a qualified veterinarian) after three consecutive breeding cycles, the stallion owner shall have earned all chute and booking fees, and all expenses occurred, but not the balance of the breeding fee, and shall have no further obligations to the mare owner.
Heather Grovet and/or Ken Schmuland have the right to refuse any mare deemed a danger to the handlers or stallion.
Fees: The following fees are associated with this breeding. All fees must be paid in full and received prior to mare owner picking up mare after live cover. Payments should be made by certified cheque or e-transfer.
1. Booking fee – A non-refundable booking fee of $225 Canadian dollars (or $170 US dollars) is due at the signing of this contract to Heather Grovet. This will assure you of a slot in the booking schedule for the stallion.
2. Breeding fee - A fee of $550 Canadian ($410 US) is due to Heather Grovet prior to the first covering of the mare. This fee, along with the booking fee, is for the stallion's services. This would make the total $775 Canadian ($580 US). See consideration below for discounts.
3. Chute fees - A fee of $175.00 Canadian ($135.00 US) will be paid to Ken Schmuland of Rafter Diamond K Ranch, Sherwood Park, Alberta, before mare is picked up. This fee is a one time cost and will cover two cycles of the mare, if required, without extra charges.
4. Mare care will be paid at the price of $15/day dry mare, and $17.50day/wet mare to Ken Schmuland of Rafter Diamond K Ranch for mares to be bred live cover. Mares will be provided with suitable care and feeding while at the facility. The mare owner will be responsible for all veterinarian and farrier expenses while the mare is the breeder's facilities.
5. Please call Ken Schmuland at 780-915-3026 three days prior to bringing your mare to farm for breeding and/or teasing.
Live Foal Guarantee – In the event that the mare is barren, aborts or produces a foal that is unable to stand alone and nurse, and subsequently dies within the first 24 hours, a return breeding will be guaranteed the following year only. Chute fees apply to all rebreedings.
· Purchaser agrees that Heather Grovet does not make any guarantees to the quality of the foal, or that the foal will be free of any infirmity, conformation defect, disease or inherited trait.
Considerations – Proven performance mares are eligible for the following breeding fee considerations. Collection/chute and shipping fees still apply.
APHA/AQHA performance ROM earner or producer $50 Canadian discount.
APHA/AQHA performance Superior earner or producer $100 Canadian discount.
APHA/AQHA performance Reserve World champion earner or producer $200 Canadian discount
APHA/AQHA performance World Champion earner or producer – no booking or breeding fee required (collection, chute and shipping fees still apply)
Multiple Mare discount – Second mare booked within the same breeding season will receive a multiple mare discount of $50 Canadian off each mare. Three mares booked within the same breeding season will receive a multiple mare discount of $75 Canadian off each mare. Multiple mare and performance fees may be combined.
Repeat mare owner - Mare owners that bred to Good N Lazy in 2022 will receive a $50 discount to breed any of their mares in 2023.
Breeder’s Trust – The stallion will be nominated for the 2023 Breeder’s Trust, and the 2023 Canadian CCF futurity.
Non-Assignment – This agreement cannot be transferred or assigned by the purchaser. There shall be no right to a re-breed to the stallion if the mare is sold or otherwise changes ownership after being serviced by the stallion.
Death of mare or stallion – If the stallion dies or becomes injured to the point that he can no longer be used for breeding before servicing the mare, then all fees including booking fees shall be returned to the mare owner. If the mare dies or becomes unfit for breeding, then a substitute mare may be sent upon notification to Heather Grovet.
Breeder’s Certificate – will be issued for the foal conceived by this mating when stallion service fee and all other expenses have been paid in full, and upon notification that the mare has produced a live foal.
Warranty – Heather Grovet, Doug Grovet or any employees of Battle River Farms, Ken Schmuland and any employees of Rafter Diamond K Ranch, and any vets used will not be responsible for any injury to mare, foal, purchaser, family members or their property/possessions.
